Welcome to Marco Small Pet Rescue, a rescue organisation founded by Talitha-Anastasia Marco with the aim of re-homing, re-educating, and re-invigorating the lives of disadvantaged, homeless, and abused small pets in Perth, Western Australia.
Our inspiration to start this rescue group came from witnessing the number of pet surrenders while volunteering and fostering at local animal rescues. We noticed a growing need for more rescue groups to cater to the demand for re-homing pets. Unfortunately, the current Western Australian housing crisis has made it challenging for pet owners to keep their furry friends, as shelters are over capacity or not accepting new intakes.
Although we are a small organization, we hope to make a mighty impact in the lives of both pets and people. We focus on rescuing smaller pets, including dogs under 10 kilos, birds, rabbits, and cats. By focusing on smaller pets, we provide a targeted service to families and individuals looking for pets that suit their needs and are in the best interest of the animal.
We understand through personal experience the significant role that pets can play in the lives of people with chronic health conditions such as migraines, diabetes, seizures, and autism. Therefore, we have a soft spot for supporting and providing therapy animals to such individuals.
We are currently growing our foster network and have plans to open a Rescue Base in Perth soon. We rely on the generosity of our sponsors to help us achieve our goals. If you would like to contribute to our cause, please consider becoming a sponsor. Every donation helps us make a difference in the lives of pets and people in need. Thank you for your support!
Our founder Talitha’s love for animals started when she helped care for the animals at her local vet and pet store ‘Pet Well’ at the age of eight. She adopted her first rescue cat, Buffy, from a box that was dumped outside the vet clinic. Sandra, one of the veterinarians, told her she could keep the cat if she could catch her. Talitha succeeded, and Buffy became her first rescue pet.
In later years, Talitha volunteered at ‘My Best Friend Veterinary Clinic’ and completed practical work experience. However, she found the cases too emotionally taxing to pursue a career as a veterinarian. Instead, Talitha pursued her education up to a Masters level but continued to volunteer at local rescues during this time.
After completing her last degree in 2012, Talitha opened her first European Gallery – Galeries Talitha Marco. The gallery grew into a successful business, featuring not just beautiful antiques but also her 2 rescue dogs, Raffael and Polly. Both dogs were a star attraction with customers, and seemed to encourage people to drop off lost or sick birds, cats, and even the occasional Rottweiler for Talitha and her family to care for!
Fast forward to 2023 and several rescue horses, and many rescued dogs and cats later…
Galeries Talitha Marco has been established for over 11 years but now operates solely online, shipping European antiques and furniture worldwide. Although still very much involved with the gallery, Talitha also takes time out of her busy schedule to help her local community where she can. In particular, her ongoing volunteer work at Perth’s animal rescue shelters has led to the realisation that there simply aren’t enough of these facilities to keep pace with the growing demand for their services. This led to the creation of Marco Small Pet Rescue.
Our mission at Marco Small Pet Rescue is to make a positive impact not just in the lives of animals in need but also on the people who will benefit from owning a pet.
We strive to provide a safe and loving home for all pets that come into our care and to find them their forever homes with families and individuals who will love and cherish them.
We do not believe in using negative or manipulative tactics, such as ‘sad, click-bait’ stories to advertise our pets, as we believe that this is unethical and targets vulnerable people.
Our goal is to create a happy and positive rescue environment for our foster cares, veterinarians, volunteers, paid staff, and adoptees where everyone is treated with kindness, respect, and continuous education.
We also aim to provide a service to people who could benefit from owning a pet, such as those with chronic diseases or disabilities, and to make a difference in their lives through the companionship of a loving pet.
